Finding a gift solution for our vendor in Indonesia seemed daunting, but I didn't want his work to go unnoticed with a special gift at the holidays. I ordered with a "we'll see how this works, low expectation" feeling. And then I got an email from our vendor thanking us for the gift and sharing photos. He was so excited to receive the gift and mentioned he didn't know how I'd achieved it. People had tried to send him things in the past that just got lost in the post office and he was never able to claim them. He joked and said I must be a wizard. :-) It was such a delightful experience for both of us. Thank you for bringing this service to life.

Receiving a gift in the mail is always exciting, no matter the season! Making someone’s day doesn’t have to be tied to a holiday or festival, though knowing when they happen is helpful. To help you navigate the world of holiday gift-giving, we’ve broken down the country’s key holidays and festivals. For your convenience, we’ve split them into four categories: Public, Christian, Jewish, and Muslim.
In Belarus, the holidays are a time for loved ones, friends, and family, to get together and share in joyus traditions. Like every other country, Belarus is home to many traditions that are unique to the people there. While others are a familiar blend of traditions brought in from those that have migrated to this country over the years. Below are just two fantastic examples of holidays in Belarus that have unique and familiar customs to them:
Orthodox Easter — a religious tradition in the Orthodox faith that celebrates the resurrection of Christ. Many people will attend special services in the weeks around this day, and families gather to celebrate with a big meal. Dishes vary from family to family, but Easter Bread (paska) and colored eggs will always be there. A fun traditional game is played with those same colored eggs. One person holds their egg in their hand, right-side up, and another smashes their egg top-side down. The person holding the egg that cracks is the loser, and the winner moves on to the next person, and so on, until one egg remains. The winner has the delight of victory and cracking their own egg.
Christmas Day — contrary to North American tradition, the people of Belarus do not give gifts on Christmas. This is reserved for New Year’s. However, some families have adopted the North American style and will give each other one gift. Christmas Day is reserved for setting up the Christmas tree in time for New Year’s and spending time with family. Ice skating is a popular activity, and going to the town center is popular among the youth.
How Are Birthdays Celebrated in Belarus?
Birthdays in Belarus, like almost anywhere else in the world, are celebrated with good food and people. Gathering with your family on the day and having a large feast is customary. Some may spend it with friends, but this is typically on a different day and not at home. People will go to a fancy cafe or restaurant and celebrate with their friends. It is customary for the birthday person to treat everyone else by way of bringing sweets to school or paying for their party at a restaurant. It’s important to make sure their birthday gift arrives on their birthday, as sending it early can be considered bad luck.
Are There Special Rules for Sending Corporate Gifts to Belarus?
If you’re looking to send a corporate gift to Belarus, here’s some gift-giving etiquette to keep in mind. Giving a gift too early into the business relationship might actually hurt your relationship. They may see it as a bribe or a way of persuasion by showing money or status. It is in your best interest to wait until a solid business relationship has been established to do so. After a business deal has been successfully reached or celebrating a year of working together are great times to start sending corporate gifts of appreciation. Consider sending something that represents your country or company. Gifts such as alcohol, chocolates, or office accessories are a good place to start.
